Prologue

Jane Goodall, UN Messenger for peace and world renown naturalist acknowledged the complexity of today's world, geographically, economically, socially and politically. Climate change is a lived issue, as is the abandonment of rights in so many contexts. Jane stressed the importance of taking action...realizing that we can make a difference...and this will encourage others to take action...and then we realise we are not alone and our cumulative actions truly make an even greater difference.

In the 2027 conference Landscapes of Hope, we invite contributions that share the perspectives of adults working alongside children and young people to take action toward a more hopeful and optimistic future. We welcome stories of safeguarding children’s rights and advocating for ethical citizenship, as well as insights into ecological engagement and encounters with the more-than-human world.

By exploring the threads outlined below, our intention is to weave a rich tapestry of hope. In this vision, children and adults—working together as co-participants in research—become, as Goodall suggests, strong and resilient messengers of hope.
